A) What are the qualifications to become a certified caregiver?

  • You have to be 18 years old and above
  • No history of felony charges
  • Current CPR/First Aid certified
  • Current TB skin test or within six months (A positive skin test does not necessarily mean that you have an active TB). You are advised to follow up with your physician and a chest X-Ray may be needed to determine whether you have active Tuberculosis (TB).
  • Current Fingerprint Clearance Card

 

B) Who awards the certificate?

The caregiver certificate is awarded by the training program. However, Certified Caregivers are now regulated by the NCIA Board. The potential employers for certified caregivers are independent living, assisted living centers, assisted living homes, adult foster care, caregiver placement agencies. Certified Caregivers are allowed to give medications as long as they have gone a formal training on how to administer medications or had been trained by the employer. The average starting rate for Certified Caregivers is $8.50.
